Better Than Life (2005)

As of August of 2005, Trudy Poirier & Captive Thought are pleased to release their second studio album, entitled, Better Than Life. Its thirteen songs are power-packed with deep, theologically rich lyrics, and lively and beautiful contemporary music. The title is from Psalm 63, where David declares that the Lord's love is "better than life." From the cover insert, co-producer Brian Mattson writes:

"Your love is better than life" (Psalm 63:3). David had but a mere taste in the desert of Judah; Jesus of Nazareth knew the full, stark reality on the hill of Golgotha. He had heard the thunderous declaration of his Father: "This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased." That timely reminder of His Father's love�and the accompanying power of the Holy Spirit�enabled him to "become obedient unto death - even death on a cross!" (Philippians 2:8). His Father's loving will for him was, truly, better than life. So the love of God in the person and work of the Lord Jesus in turn becomes for us "better than life." These songs are our meditations on how high and how wide, and how long and deep is the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord; a love that is better than life. That is a message for the journey, as we too seek to take up our cross to follow Jesus, who leads us as "captives in his train" (Ephesians 4:8).

I am pleased to note that we have completed (finally!) our second album, entitled Better Than Life. CDs and songbooks are now available through our online store. You may still purchase our first CD (Taste & See�Songs of Life and Worship) and accompanying sheet music. Or join us in person on a Sunday morning or at one of our scheduled events as we "worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness." (Psalm 96:9)

Pear Tree Music's worship ensemble, Captive Thought, often travels to enhance the worship at conferences, retreats, and church services. They had the privilege to lead worship during the 2001 - 2004 Peacemaker Ministries Annual Conferences. In addition, they have led the worship for several National Litigation Academies for the Alliance Defense Fund. All these occasions were a wonderful time of fellowship and celebrating the grace of God through Jesus Christ.
